PRIZE WINNING GARDEN.....WINNER in the CLCA - California Landscape Contractors Association - 2010 Trophy Awards. This garden took first place in the category of "Small Residential Landscape" and second
place in the category "Xeriscape Garden". How exciting for all of us involved - me, as the designer, the owners
and the contractor who did the installation, Larson Landscaping.
In this "Before" shot you
can see that the backyard was just a solid mass of concrete.

For anyone who knows the owners
and how much they love their three dogs, this feature is an instant favorite. The owners had these old windows and wanted
to use them somehow. Now each window has a picture of one of the dogs looking out. You can't even see the spa, which is intentional. We sunk it and planted in front to hide it
until you are right upon it. Since this is a pretty new garden, it will take a bit of time before the "waterfall"
grows in behind.

2010 Garden Show at the Los Angeles
Arboretum. The show was a huge
success, especially for APLD who had the best exhibit in my humble opinion. I was in charge of designing and installing
the citrus orchard and lemonade stand.

The following series of photographs illustrate the makeover of a courtyard
in a Senior Retirement home. The owners of this home appreciate the healing and calming effects of a garden, both
on its residents and its workers. They are gradually improving all their courtyards, starting with the Mediterranean
Garden. The top two photographs show what it looked like before and the next four show the transformation to a
more peaceful garden.
This sadly neglected property was transformed by adding patios, walkways, lush plantings
and a whimsical fountain. The arbor, heavily laden with a fragrant Stephanotis vine, welcomes visitors into the
garden beyond.
This front yard cried out for color - and color
it got.
This tiny front yard garden
in the English countryside was a fun and unexpected project.

This front yard got an updated, softer look
... with more color.

A backyard hillside was designed to be more usable
for the owners, while still maintaining it's woodsy quality. Plantings were added and a pathway helps to navigate
the hillside to a sitting area perched above the pool and entertaining areas.
If you're short on space or you
need to soften up a patio, a pot can
be the perfect solution to add color, or in the pot
below, an herb garden with a merlot grapevine as a centerpiece.
